Inter-generational Programs

Powell House offers several inter-generational weekend retreats each year. We have a fall work weekend in October and another each Easter weekend.

Powell House also offers a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate the New Year with an annual conference from December 30 through January 1. Inter-generational men's or women's weekends are also offered.

Inside…

Most adult and intergenerational retreats are held in Pitt Hall, a large, rambling house, which can provide gathering space for up to 125 people. There are rooms for various size gatherings, a children's playroom, a bookstore and a gift shop. Our dining room can seat up to 70 people. We can accommodate 40 guests overnight in the 14 bedrooms with 10 full and half baths - some attached to rooms and others down the hall. Comfortable furnishing throughout give Pitt Hall a friendly, home-like, and relaxed atmosphere.

Outside…

Powell House has 57 acres of forests, lawns, gardens, and fields. An outdoor labyrinth, swimming pond, trails through woods, and a campground provide refreshing and rejuvenating outdoor opportunities.

Travel

Make sure we know your travel plans at least 72 hours prior to each conference.

Carpooling

Whether you need a ride or if you have room for riders in your car, please check the carpool box on the registration. We will make one list and send it to everyone on the list.

Train

From points south, Amtrak stops in Hudson at 5:15. From the west Amtrak stops at the Albany/Rensselaer station at 7:00 p.m. (www.Amtrak.com for reserving tickets and more info).

You will need to arrange for a taxi from the station to Powell House. If you check the box on the registration form, we’ll send you a list of other attendees traveling by train. We are about 30-45 minutes from the train stations. The Green Bee We taxi service is one of our neighbors and we have sent our own kids with her.  Her phone number is: (518) 392-0461

Pricing

$320, Comprehensive rate: Covers all our direct costs for a retreat, including staff time and those costs related to the use and long-term maintenance of the facilities.

$280, Standard rate: Covers direct costs, including staff time, but does not cover costs related to the use and long-term maintenance of the facilities. We hope most people will pay this amount.

$240, Special Reduced rate: Covers the cash expenses for the program and sometimes a little more. We hope this new lower rate will encourage new people to attend our programs.

We want you to join us. Please do not let cost be an obstacle.

Financial Aid

Scholarship monies are available for those who need them.  Pay what you can. We ask that everyone pay at least the $50 deposit, but let us know if that is a hardship at any time. Write the amount of aid you need for each conference on your registration form.  There is a discount for first timers. Don't forget that your local Meeting may also be a source of assistance. 

Our sources of financial aid include the NYYM Black Concerns Committee, Nine Partners Quarterly Meeting, and several monthly meetings.

Powell House Subscription Series

We also offer Individual and Monthly Meeting subscriptions to lower the cost of attending. Any individual who pays $840 is eligible to come to as many Powell House programs as they’d like for one year; any monthly meeting that pays $1680 can have one person at each Powell House program for one year. Confirmation
&
Cancellation

Confirmations are emailed approximately two weeks before each conference. If you must cancel, call us immediately, as we often have a waiting list. If you cancel by 5 p.m. the Friday one week before a conference, your deposit will be credited to another conference, or returned. You will be notified if you are on the waiting list.
