4th - 5th grade conferences

Oct 4-6     Tag, Not Tag  Register here

Tag games can be fun, but they can also turn "not fun" pretty quick.
We will play a ton of tag games and look at how we can make them fun for
everyone.  Small groups will each invent and teach a new tag game to the rest
of us.  How will we settle disputes?  How will we adapt to the needs of the
other players? How do we win, yet not have losers?  When can losing be as fun
as winning?

Dec 6-8     Winter  Eyes  Register here

How we see things helps change the way we feel about them.  We will practice
using “winter eyes” for these short cold days of winter - seeing color in gray days,
feeling the joy of being together, practicing ways to bring energy and warmth
into ourselves and others.  Hot chocolate and a warm fire may be a good start to
a nice winter.

6th -8th grade conferences

Sept 13-15   Are You For Real?    Register here

How do you know when something is real? Or an optical illusion? You touch a
table, you feel it and then know it is real... not an illusion ... until you lose the
sense of touch.  Or your brain gets fooled into feeling something not actually
there.  What about gravity? Emotions? Love? Spirit?
How do you know when you are being real or authentic?  When do you get to
be real?  This conference should be real fun and real interesting.

Nov 15 -17    Falling Up    Register here

Falling down is seldom fun, so what if we could choose to fall up instead?  How
far would you fall up? How would it feel?  We will practice some ways to keep
our bodies safe even when we are unstable and trip, as well as ways to help
our minds and spirits fall up instead of down in times of trouble or turmoil.
We will rake up the fallen leaves, gathering ourselves in community as well,
and see if the law of gravity is really a law or just a suggestion.

Dec 13-15     WINTERSONG 2019     7th –12th grade   Register Here

This is our traditional two-house celebration where older middle schoolers join our high schoolers to create a vibrant, joyful community.   Large boisterous sessions mix with small group gatherings for deep discussions, creative expression and tasty treat concocting.  Saturday night begins with a dress up dinner and closes with a tree-lighting ceremony.

High School conferences

Sept 27-29     Future Scape     9th -12th  Register here

In these middle-teen years of your life, people start asking you about the
future - like you have answers, right?  A Quaker practice is to ask queries rather than give answers to seekers.  So we’ll practice that practice.
While individual answers may be revealed over time, during this conference we will actually work on developing better questions for ourselves and our communities.  With the right questions, we can start to focus our visions for our future selves.

Oct 18-20    JCT  Register Here

JC is for Junior Counselor and T is for training. This is our “work-your-heart-out” conference. Sessions are long and grueling, free time nearly nonexistent. Yet year after year attenders claim this is one of their favorite conferences ever. Why? Because they learn the inner workings of PoHo and they prepare to take their place among a long list of awesome JCs who nurture the community and bring the program alive. If you’re responsible, fun loving, believe in the “idea” of PoHo and would like to become a JC, join us this weekend.

Nov. 22-24: AT THE END OF YOUR LINE? BUILD A BRIDGE     Register Here

In our lives there's a lot to be angry about. Climate change, the current political status of our country, the judicial system, equal rights, women's rights.  Sometimes things closer to home in our individual lives are scary too. Fear can make us feel helpless and often angry. But we are not alone. Please join us for a weekend of discussing what we can do with that fear and anger in a nonviolent, productive way!
