Quake, Rattle and Roll! Making Music as a Spiritual Discipline, May 11-13, 2018
Haven't you ever dreamed of being in your favorite rock, punk, R&B, or blues band; going into the studio to record a groundbreaking new album? What if that were possible? What if Quakers were your bandmates?
This new PoHo conference may give you just that kind of experience (at which time you can answer "yes" to Jimi Hendrix's rhetorical question). Some of your talented NYYM Friends will lead you and your family in sessions that relate to your own interests and talents, such as: A Capella Singing, Rhythm Instruments, Beginning and Intermediate Guitar, and Sound Systems. You will be able to work with really talented and accomplished musicians to hone your performance skills, or, if you think you have no skills, develop some. Singing and rhythm are natural instincts in all humans, so just come and have fun.
The goal of our weekend of spiritual music making will be a performance, and not just any performance. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest rock albums of all time, we will perform all of the songs from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Beatles timeless masterpiece. Sound exciting? Register early so you won't miss your chance to "try with a little help from your Friends."Mark Hewitt, organizer/creator; Brian Menyuk, co-facilitator
